John C. Scaramucci

John C. Scaramucci, M.D., of Pittsburgh, PA died on January 29, 2018. Dr. Scaramucci, fondly known as Dr. John,was the son of the late Carlo and Carmella (Rocco) Scaramucci of Newell, PA. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Kathryn (Moorman) Scaramucci and his two brothers Louis (Marcella) Scaramucci of Newell, PA and Dr. Eugene (Brenda) Scaramucci of Belle Vernon, PA. Dr. Scaramucci is survived by his two sons Carl Scaramucci of Pittsburgh, PA and Brian Scaramucci of Jacksonville, FL, his two sisters-in-law Marcella and Brenda and his nieces and nephews. Dr. Scaramucci was raised in Newell, PA and graduated from Monessen High School in 1949. He then earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology and Chemistry from the University of Pittsburgh in 1953. Dr. Scaramucci attended the University of Pittsburgh Medical School and graduated in 1957. That was followed by a rotating internship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Magee-Women's Hospital. Following completion of his residency in June, 1961 he entered the U.S. Air Force as a Captain. His tour in the Air Force included positions as the Chairman of the Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology Department at Chennault Air Force Base in Lake Charles, LA and Barksdale Air Force Base in Shreveport, LA. He also met his future wife, Mary Kathryn Moorman, who was also an Air Force officer, and was later married at Hickam Air Force Base, HI. In July, 1963 he was honorably discharged and returned to Pittsburgh to start his practice. He maintained a solo practice for more than 35 years with offices in Oakland and Brentwood and served on staff at Magee-Women's Hospital and then retired in 1996. He's estimated to have delivered more than 7,500 babies during his career. Dr. Scaramucci was a member of the Allegheny County Medical Society, the Pennsylvania Medical Society, the American Medical Association, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and a diplomat of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He also belonged to the Pittsburgh OB/GYN Society and was a member of the Minutemen of the School of Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Scaramucci was a past president of the Medical Staff at Magee-Women's Hospital and served on the Medical Executive Committee for 22 years. He was a clinical associate professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He was a member of the Madonna del Castello Parish in Swissvale, PA. Friends and family will be received from 6-8 p.m. Thursday and 2-4 & 6-8 pm Friday at the Thomas L. Nied Funeral Home, 7441 Washington Street, Swissvale, PA 15218. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday at 11 am in the Madonna del Castello Roman Catholic Church, 2021 South Braddock Avenue, Swissvale, PA 15218. Interment will immediately follow at the Braddock Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory at the Madonna Del Castello Catholic Church, 2021 South Braddock Avenue, Swissvale, PA 15218.
