Obituary of Grayce Connelly

Grayce J. Connelly Passed away peacefully on November 15, 2020. She was three weeks away from her 102nd birthday. Grayce was born in Swissvale to Willam Skinkis and Mary Skinkis, nee Osinski, and attended high school there. She graduated from California State Teachers College where she edited the school newspaper. She also met her future husband Frank there. After college she began teaching Latin and English in Indianola. During WWII, she married Frank at Spence Field, Georgia, where he was serving as a flight instructor. After the war, she and Frank moved back to Swissvale and then to Penn Hills. She was widowed in 1962 when Frank died in a plane crash serving with the PA Air National Guard. To support her family of three, she began teaching again at St. Bartholomew's grade school in 1963. In 1968, she took a position in the Swissvale public schools where she taught for 18 years. In retirement, she enjoyed yardwork around her home, travelling, playing with her spoiled dog Meggie, and visiting her grandchildren, nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews. She is survived by her son, Bruce Connelly (Mimi Frey); her daughters, Sharon Connelly (Gary Thomas) and Maureen Lewis (Charles); and her grandchildren, Tim Lewis and Brittany Lewis; and many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Her children would like to thank the friendly staff at Seneca Hills Village independent living facility, the caring professionals at Seneca Place nursing facility and the sensitive professionals at Bridges Hospice for watching over their mother during this difficult time of COVID-19. Immediate family celebrated Grayce's life at a private funeral mass on Friday, November 20, 2020. Arrangements entrusted to the THOMAS L.
