Obituary of Sylvia Boyd

SYLVIA ELIZABETH (SKINKIS)

BOYD

Age 94, peacefully on August 29, 2018, formerly of Delmont and Swissvale. Daughter of the late William B. and Mary Skinkis; beloved wife of the late Robert G. Boyd; loving mother of Dennis Boyd, Mary Kay (Frank) Enterline, the late Terrence Boyd (Dee Esposto), Patty Boyd (Mark Haibach), Bobby Boyd, and the late Tom Desmond (Andrea) Boyd-Helm; sister of Grayce Connelly and the late William F. Skinkis. She leaves behind 10 grandchildren, Michael, Wendy, Will, Beth Ann, Terry, Tomasina, Mike, Noah, Zach, and Julia and five great-grandchildren, Levi, Lukas, Nina, Reed, and Milo; a sister Grayce Connelly; and many nieces and nephews. Sylvia was a devoted, energetic mother whose home-made bread was enjoyed by kids around the neighborhood. She raised six children all while taking in boarders in the early years, feeding the occasional homeless person who came knocking at the back door, and eventually working as a stenographer. Upon her retirement from Westinghouse, she enjoyed golf with her husband Bob. She was a longtime volunteer at Meals on Wheels in Salem Township and was a dedicated lector at St. John Baptist De La Salle. We wish to express our gratitude for the loving care provided by Valley View Retirement Village and hospice, the Bridge. Her family will remember her for her humble spirit and sense of humor. Family and friends received 2–4 and 6–8 p.m. WEDNESDAY ONLY at the THOMAS L. NIED FUNERAL HOME, INC., 7441 Washington Street, Swissvale. Mass of celebration in the St. John the Baptist, Delmont, on Thursday, 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to St. Joseph's House of Hospitality, 1635 Bedford Ave., Pittsburgh 15219.
